The sun lost its sight as night spread its veil.
The moment of blessed calm is here at last.
Outside the door it is blowing a gale.
Shining stars wink as the howling wind lasts.
Heavily, the men in the cottage snore
As the nightingales sing a bedtime song.
Into the murky night my red eyes bore.
I could not sleep for my beloved I long.
The Moon's at its fairest, but I am dun.
Moments without her have made me lonely.
Shall I compare her with the dazzling sun,
Her beauty is brighter and more lovely.
A troubled mind drives me to walk abroad.
In search of her, every river I'll ford.
